Abstract

Throughout the human civilization and in all religions, prayers serve as a means of liberation from all miseries, all sorts of helplessness and a way to the fulfilment of aspirations as well as the treatment of all physical and mental problems.
In the Glorious Qur'an, one can find many cases where both the Messengers of God and religious men have appealed to prayers in hardships. The cases in point are the sura, the Opening, and the obligatory ritual prayers.
Studying the occasions for prayers in the Glorious Qur'an and attending to what occurs in occasions for psychotherapy, this artide attempts to answer the following questions:
1. Can prayer ceremonies be compared with the successive phases of psychotherapy?
2. Are the nature and quantity of words used in the Qur'an identical with what is applied in psychotherapy?
3. Do the conditions for the acceptance of prayer in the Qur'an have messages for the increase in the effectiveness of psychotherapy?
To answer the aforementioned questions, at first we have to make clear our view as to what psychotherapy is and then compare it with what the Qur'an says about prayer and finally make a conclusion about them.
